World Geography, Reading, Language Arts |
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!
7th Grade Core is a 3-period block class that consists of core subjects Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies.
Language Arts
Students will continue to use their writing skills on a daily basis, with focus on expository, narrative, and persuasive writing styles, along with organization, vocabulary, and structure in the writing process. We will also spend the year focusing on the mastery of claim evidence warrant.
Reading
Students will also experience a collection of many different pieces of literature throughout the year focusing on novels, short stories, and nonfiction. Novels that will be read include but are not limited to: The Giver, The Testing, A Long Walk to Water and The Outsiders. As we continue to build reading skills, students will be expected to read outside of the classroom and will have assessments and reading checks throughout the year.
Social Studies
Students will examine in depth, World Geography, learning about the modern world with a focus on cultures, economics, political systems, environments, and social issues. Students will access material through an online textbook and teacher created resources. Regions of the world that will be focused on include Asia, Australia, Africa and Latin America.
